If you ever noticed that Harvey Fierstein’s voice recalls that of former New York state congresswoman Bella Abzug, you’re not the only one. Harvey noticed too. Now this icon of theater and an icon of politics come together in Bella Bella, a new solo play written by and starring Fierstein as Abzug. Known for her outspoken views, prominent hats and gravelly voice, Abzug made for an indelible figure perhaps only Fierstein could embody. The play finds her hiding out in the women’s room of a New York hotel, awaiting the results of her 1976 bid to become New York's first female senator as a crowd of family members, supporters and celebrities wait for her to appear. Kimberly Senior (Chris Gethard: Career Suicide) directs.
