Both a murder mystery and a searing social commentary, Charles Fuller’s A Soldier’s Play comes to Broadway in a starry new Roundabout Theatre Company production directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun). The 1981 play (the basis for the 1984 movie A Soldier’s Story) is set in 1944 on a segregated Louisiana U.S. Army base, where a black sergeant is murdered and the black captain sent to investigate the killing finds himself at dangerous odds with white officers impeding his inquiry. The cast includes three-time Tony nominee David Alan Grier (Race, Porgy and Bess) and Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood (A Streetcar Named Desire).
